Visa & Entry Procedure

VISA ENTRY PROCEDURE:

Visa & Entry Procedure, All foreign visitors need to obtain an entry or tourist visa. Except for neighboring Indian nationality, and SAARC (South Asia Association of Regional Cooperation) member countries. Where visa fee is free of charge for a maximum of 30 days, whereas other nationalities. Can get it from your home countries at Nepalese Embassies or Consulates, if not available. One can get it on arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport.

Travelers by overland from Tibet / China or India could obtain in any main entry border check-post. Where the immigration department is located after producing your valid passports with necessary documents and photos. As required to process the Nepal entry visa.

REQUIREMENT FOR NEPAL VISA:

A valid passport not expiring, a minimum of 6 months from the date, and year of issue. Visa can be obtained only by cash payments in any convertible currency, stated as Nepal National Bank, like in US, HK$, Australian, Singapore, or Canadian $, including Euro and UK Pound Sterling. Payment by Credit Card, or in Indian and Nepalese currencies is not accepted upon obtaining a visa, from any immigration department around the country entry point.

The following Visa fees have come into effect from the 17th of July 2019, where changes can occur without prior notice, and please get updated with information regarding visa fees.

Visa Fee for Tourist, besides Indian and SAARC countries:

  • 15 days with Multiple Entries at the cost of the USA $ 30 or equivalent in other accepted foreign currencies.
  • 30 days with Multiple Entry US $ 50 or equivalent in other accepted foreign currencies.
  • 90 Days with Multiple Entries at the cost of US$ 125 or equivalent in other accepted foreign currencies.
  • Visa Extension within a valid visa at the cost of US $ 3 per day.
  • Visa Extension after the expiry date of your visa at the cost of US $ 5 per day.

Indian nationals, do not require a Nepal entry visa but should carry the following documents, Passport, or any other official ID including Election Commission Card. For Chinese Nationality, as per the official announcement of the Nepal Embassy in Beijing-China. Chinese nationals applying for tourist visas are provided a Gratis Tourist Visa from 5th January 2016 onwards, from following Nepalese Foreign Mission Department in all of mainland China.

Entry/ Exit Points in Nepal:

The entry and exit points for the purpose of foreigners entering and departing from Nepal are the following. The Immigration offices in such points are open 24 hours. Entering and departing from other places except the point is treated as a violation of the Immigration Act and the Regulation.

  • Immigration Office, Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu.
  • Immigration Office, Kakarvitta, Jhapa (Eastern Nepal).
  • Immigration Office, Birganj, Parsa (Central Nepal).
  • Immigration Office, Kodari, Sindhupalchowk (Northern Border).
  • Immigration Office, Belahia, Bhairahawa (Rupandehi, Western Nepal).
  • Immigration Office, Jamunaha, Nepalgunj (Banke, Mid Western Nepal).
  • Immigration Office, Mohana, Dhangadhi (Kailali, Far Western Nepal).
  • Immigration Office, Gaddachauki, Mahendranagar (Kanchanpur, Far Western Nepal).
  • Immigration Office, Pokhara (not the entry point).
  • Immigration Office, Rasuwagadi Rasuwa, (Northern Border).


Special Visa Information for the following nationalities:

African countries and some from Mid-East, like Nationals from Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, and Afghanistan. Needs to obtain Nepal visa from Nepal Embassies or Diplomatic Missions in their respective countries. As these nationalities are not permitted Nepal Entry visas on arrival, or at any immigration entry points of Nepal. Important information on a visa at present due to Covid-19:

At present from 2020 onward, due to Coronavirus Pandemic, a slight change in visa rules. Where visitors applying for visas might require recommendations and supporting letters from your travel or trekking agents in Nepal.  Stating that you are fit and able to travel around Nepal, requires a medical certificate for at least a minimum of 72 hours. Producing negative results from Covid-19.

Then you can obtain a Nepal visa during the present Pandemic crisis, although Covid-19, had been the least affected in Nepal. Where all things are getting back to normal, as it was a few years before. The present law and protocol on health issues and visas might change, and will not be in effect shortly. Please be updated, and contact your booking agent in Nepal, for any new changes in visa regulations.

Bhutan and Tibet Entry Visa: 

For visitors who might be interested to travel neighboring Himalayan countries of Nepal like Bhutan or Tibet. To enter Nepal around these countries one should follow the rules. Booking at least a minimum of two weeks or before with 50 % as a down payment from the actual trip cost. Sending us your Passport and international flight details and dates of departure from your country. As well as the duration of travel as per the itinerary chosen.

TIBET ENTRY VISA:

First of all important to have a valid passport with at least six months validity from expiry and return date. As you are unable to obtain a visa to Tibet, you need to send your passport details to Hikers Himalaya visa, at least 20 days before your departure date to Tibet.

Where a minimum number of 3-5 in a group, as the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. Allows and permits only visitors to enter on a group visa which will be on a sheet of paper. Which will be officially stamped with authorization with two visas including the name list of the group.

One for entry and the other for exit from Tibet as per the duration of time in Tibet From Nepal, one can enter Tibet overland, or by air to reach Lhasa or return to Kathmandu. Options by flight or taking a drive-in all-Tibet tour you will be guided by our counterpart agent with a local Tibetan guide.

As required for our staff and guide or tour escort for Tibet. For the Tibet trip, travelers need multiple visas to enter back in Nepal which can be obtained from the border immigration department.

BHUTAN ENTRY VISA:

To travel from Nepal can book through local agencies in Kathmandu like Hiker Himalayan treks. Where you need to sign in at least two weeks in advance with half of the trip payment. Then Hiker Himalaya Nepal will proceed with the necessary arrangement as per the itinerary. Where our Bhutanese counterpart agents will take care of your holiday in Bhutan from arrival to departure.

Only booking with an agency can get flight tickets to Bhutan which is also the assistance of a visa to enter Bhutan. The actual visa from Bhutan will be stamped in your passport on arrival at Paro, Bhutan International airport. From Bhutan one can take a further journey back home using connecting flights from major Indian cities or Bangkok, it notes returning to Kathmandu.
