Rara Lake Trek is a marvelous walk that leads to Nepal Far North West around a peaceful and serene country. One of the most scenic adventures within the Himalayas region, its tranquil surroundings are the charm of Rara Lake Trek.
Rara Lake the largest and deepest lake in Nepal, is located in a beautiful spot encircled by rolling green hills. Facing views of snow-capped peaks amidst a lovely forest, this scenic area falls within Rara National Park and covers 106 sq. km. That extends from the district of Jumla to Mugu, an isolated and remote corner of the Himalayas.
Where fewer foreigners seldom venture, but gain much popularity among domestic travelers. Less visited by the main flow of trekkers makes this adventure at Rara Lake quite special and unique, walking into a pristine environment. Rara Lake covers 10.8 sq. km within the smallest park in Nepal at an altitude of 2,990 m high.
Surrounded by beautiful woodland lined with blue pine, black juniper, and oak with Himalayan cypress, which makes excellent habitat for wildlife. Rara Lake and its scenic surrounding are covered mainly with coniferous forest, higher up spruce gives away to fir and birch trees.
Journey to Rara Lake which is about 371 km, air distance from the capital Kathmandu, where exciting flight involves both ways. The other option is taking a long overland ride of more than 8 hours to Nepalgunj city. Where one needs to transfer on a local jeep or similar vehicle to reach Rara Lake, then start the walk.
Rara Lake Trek can be done in various ways taking shorter or longer routes over a week. Depending upon one interest and time available, a week-long trek begins from the Jumla, taking a flight from Nepalgunj. A city in Far South West Nepal, which one can reach by driving or taking a scenic flight from Kathmandu.
On reaching Jumla town airport, where walk leads you north over the green hills of Jaljala pass at 3, 585 m high. Rewards with a magnificent panorama of Jumla and Mugu country beautiful landscapes with views of high snow-capped peaks. Then walk to the old ruined historical kingdom of Malla times at Sinja, following the stream to reach Ghorasinga. Located just on the border of Rara National Park, a walk leads toward the main highlight of the journey. Finally reach Rara Lakeshore, where you can spend overnights in a local lodge with rooms facing grand scenery.
A great marvelous spot to spend an extra day exploring this beautiful countryside, adorned with awesome mountain views. On a rest day hike to Murma Hill-top 3, 780 m high offers dramatic views of Rara Lake. Overlooking grand lovely surroundings of green hills with snow-clad peaks, and then head back to the end of the walks.
Take an alternative route to Talcha, a small farm town with an airstrip, where a scenic flight brings you to Kathmandu. An enjoyable Rara Lake Trek of 15 days, with an exciting tour around Kathmandu at places of great heritage interest.
Spring is lovely and much prettier with long sunny days, the afternoon can be much colder and in nighttime till the next morning. A lively time when wildflowers are in blossom makes the walk more enjoyable with clear views of the amazing scenery that surrounds the Rara Lake areas.
The next best season of autumn is from September to November when days are crystal clear for views and as well for pleasant walks. However, much cold in the late afternoon nights till morning time. Can expect snowfall sometimes during the walk to Rara Lake.

If you follow our lead, you can easily avoid Acute Mountain Sickness. Walking above 3,000 meters can attract AMS or other similar medical conditions. Oxygen available at this altitude is comparatively less than sea level. The higher you go, the less oxygen you will get.

4After the wonderful overnight camping, you will trek uphill walking into a forest of rhododendron, birch, and pine. A short hike through the forests leads to a small pass called Jaljala Bhanjyang. The pass offers wonderful views of Kanjiroba Himal.
The trek continues downhill and reaches a large grassy field. The field appears out of nowhere and so derives its name. You will stay overnight in this summer pasture.

5Morning trek will descend to Sinja Khola. You will follow the Jaljala stream into a dense forest of pine. The forest leads to Sinja village through the terraced farms.
The village was an old kingdom many years ago and you can find ancient rundowns, ruins, monuments, and old sculptures covered with thick moss and weeds. Walking upstream from Sinja village leads to Ganji. You will rest for a while and pass through the gorge to camp overnight at Botan village.

Rara Lake is located in Nepal Far West and to reach the trekking point involves flight both ways, becomes more expensive than another main trekking region, the cost comes to higher. On route to Rara Lake, there are only a few available lodges for an overnight stop of simple food and accommodation.
Minimum age of 16 and onwards, and not older than 65 years, should be in good physical shape and in sound health to cope with high hills and altitude.
From the last village and town atJumla, there is no electricity to charge your gadgets, where one needs to carry a portable solar panel that can fit outside your day pack, while you trek the sunlight can power your solar panel to use at the end of the day. But at Rara Lake and in the end at Talcha, there is electricity to charge your electronic items.
Depending upon the seriousness of the illness, if it’s a critical situation the client needs immediate evacuation for medical help, by any means of fast transportation. The fastest way in Nepal Himalaya and on Rara Lake Trek is using a Helicopter Service. Our guide will inform the head office to arrange a Helicopter to evacuate the sick person. From the nearest spot where a helicopter can land and then fly to Kathmandu or at Nepalgunj city, and admit to the best hospitals for further treatment.
Staying in the best simple lodge were available around main large villages, most overnights spending in tented camping. Hiker Himalaya will provide full camping facilities includes two-men tents, dining tent as per the size of a group with separate kitchen tents backed by a camping staff of expert cooks, kitchen crews, guides, and porters to carry all camping gear and food throughout the journey.
Food will be of excellent standard served from our kitchen tent by our chef, with variation from continental, Chinese, Indian, and Italian to Tibetan and Nepalese meals. Includes good breakfast, light lunch, and a great main course at dinner time. However, at Rara lake and in Talcha staying in a local simple lodge, with basic meals to order.
