Compared to other popular areas of trekking Tsum valley and Manaslu Circuit is fairly newly opened areas for trekking. 1991 Manaslu has been allowed for outside visitors since 1991 and Tsum Valley late during 2008. Buts all travelers require special permits to enter around this restricted region of Tsum Valley and Manaslu Circuit.
Starts with a moderate walk with a climb to Barphak village and downhill to join the main trail of Manaslu Circuit and Tsum valley. The walking trail is well maintained by villagers, the only hard section is going steep uphill for some hours for a few days, on reaching Manaslu and Tsum Valley, walk-on gradual ups and downs. The only tough steep climb is on the day crossing high Larke-La pass, where the climb is of more than 3-4 hours till you reach on top of Larke-La pass at5,106 m and 16,752 feet high. From the pass, a long descend to Bhimthang and then on the gradual downhill with a few short climb to Dharapani village where the walk ends then drive back to Kathmandu.
Mt. Manaslu is listed as the world's 8th highest mountain with a series of satellite peaks such as Bauddha and Himal Chuli peaks above 7,000 m high, Mt. Manaslu is 8,163 m and 26, 781 feet high. Located Nepal Far North Mid-West Himalaya, on Old Himalaya Trans Himalaya Salt Trade and Caravan Route Trails of Nepal and Tibet / China.
At present motorable has extended till Machha-Khola and close to Barphak village which saves two days of trekking duration, and after crossing high Larke-la pass, on entering Manang area, the motorable road meets at Dharapani village at the end of the trek. Where one drives back to Kathmandu or stays overnight at Besisar town before heading to Kathmandu.
As per the season, normally morning and late afternoon till night time it gets much cold, including on shady places away from sun-lights. In the high trekking season from March to May, the weather is fine and clear with sunny days, maximum temperatures of + 20 to + 25 degrees Celsius, minimum of - 5 to - 10 degrees Celsius, especially from Sama village till Larke-La Pass. Where the wind-chill factor adds colder.
In autumn/fall which is one of the best and high seasons, + 16 to + 20 degrees Celsius, minimum of - 10 to - 15 degrees Celsius, especially from Sama and Samdu village till Dharapani is reached with coldest wind-chill factor on crossing Larke-La Pass. However, walking keeps you warm as well inside the cozy lodge, after ending a nice scenic trek of the day.
During the high season gets more trekkers during spring and autumn, due to the restricted trekking zone, where trekkers must obtain a special permit to enter the high Manaslu valley. Where visitors need to pay a special extra fee that makes less number of trekkers than other normal mainstream trekking destinations of Nepal Himalaya. At present, it is getting more popular where the number of trekkers has increased over the years.
Normally, all trekkers are aware of traveling around Asian and developing countries, the only major problem trekkers can find is altitude sickness or AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). However, some trekkers can get sick like diarrhea and from high altitude walks for normal symptoms rest for a few days till the victims' recovers and is able to continue walking.
But in a severe and serious situation, the only way of fast and immediate emergency rescue is by helicopter service, to reach the nearest hospital and medical care. In this emergency case where victims have to bear all the expenses to be claimed from their health and medical insurance.
Barphak village lodges of homely type with nice simple huts but clean rooms and food menu is limited. But from Jagat to Sama-Gaon the lodges are much better with good food with a long list of food menus. Around Tsum valley the lodges are simple and basic, with normal good meals, but as you reach large villages foods of various choices from Continental, Indian, Chinese, and Tibetan with typical Nepalese foods. Most lodges have common baths and toilets due to harsh terrain and cold climate.
