In the early days, few groups of trekkers and adventurers explored and trekked this route via Cho-La pass to reach both sides of Khumbu from Gokyo to Everest base camp or vice-versa. But since last few decades getting more popular due to its awesome scenery and a great challenge to take.
Nearly all seasons of the year Everest's higher region is cold during morning and late afternoon till night time, as well in shady areas away from sun-light. But most day is fine and warm when the sun reaches, it can be strong sunlight during the afternoon time, where trekkers need sun-block and necessary protection like a sun hat, sunglass with long sleeve shirt and full pants. Due to strong UV that shines above 3,000 m high, where the air is much thinner. It also depends upon the seasons, like the springtime of March to May with pleasant weather with enough sun, as well in autumn September to November. Morning and nighttime can be cold with an extra wind chill factor.
However cold the Himalayas, get cold weather nearly all seasons of the year as you are trekking around the highest region on this planet, where freezing temperatures of arctic cold can be experienced around Himalaya.
Yes, certain age limit matters as it involves high pass with dry and arid terrain, minimum age of 16 and onwards, and not older than 65 years, should be in good physical shape and in sound health to cope with high hills and altitude.
From the start at Lukla to the last overnight stop in Gorakshep there is electricity in every settlement, only at Thagnak and Dzongla. But from Gokyo and Lobuche onwards few places with hydropower. Most settlements after Namche Bazaar electricity runs by solar energy, where you can charge your gadgets. Where you need to pay for every item per hour to the owner of the lodge.
