Dhampus Sarangkot hiking takes you to interesting  Himalayas viewpoints in Dhampus, Sarangkot, and Naudanda as you know Mt. Fishtail (6993 m), Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167 m), Mt. Annapurna I (8091 m), Mt. Lamjung Himal, Mt. Manaslu (8163 m) with Pokhara valley. Sarangkot translates old fort as being a prominent viewpoint for sunrise, close-up views of these snow-clad peaks, Pokhara valley, and green hills. Dhampus is not only a Mountain Viewpoint but also a small, ethnic Gurung village.

A hike to Dhampus will give an opportunity to watch the daily lives of these villagers from mulching the buffaloes to their daily work on the farms. The journey to Dhampus village, one of the delights in Nepal, begins from Phedi village, a nearly 30-minute drive from the attractive lakeside of Pokhara valley.

When we come out of the jungle to reach Dhampus, we will be able to wonder at the outstanding view of the enormous Mt. Machhapuchhre. Commonly known as Fishtail Mountain (6991m) its peak resemble the figure of a fish’s trail.

Dhampus Sarangkot hiking known as Sarangkot Hiking, is a rather short course than others, offering an opportunity to observe the fascinating culture and customs of Nepal’s western mid-hill communities. Inhabitance by the friendly Gurung and Magar community, Dhampus is a beautiful village with some slate-roofed houses, a paved courtyard, Buddhist monastery.

The trip will remain ideal for those wishing to experience Nepal’s mountain scenery and ethnic culture within a short time. Enchanting views of Pokhara Valley and the Phewa Lake can see from the Sarangkot viewpoint.

Trip Itinerary

Day

1

Dhampus is situated in the west north of Pokhara. We will go by private van from the hotel to Phedi and we will walk to Dhampus. Dhampus showcases the Himalayas range accompanied by the local culture, Gurung community, and tradition. The trail is decorated with rhododendron flowers.

From Dhampus you can see Annapurna, Machhapuchre (known as fish tale), two different mountains above eight thousand Annapurna 1, Dhaulagiri, and many other peaks of the Himalayas.

After lunch at Dhampus, you can walk sightseeing to the Australian camp see the beautiful sunset, and back to the hotel.

Day

2

After breakfast at Dhampus, you will walk to Sarang Kot. Additionally, Sarangkot allows a bird's eye view of the mountain range, Pokhara valley, and Phewa Lake. It is mostly popular for watching the sunrise.

Besides, Pokhara is a combination of culture, tradition, modernization, and natural beauty.

You can just relax peacefully by the lake and observe high green hills and snow-capped mountains or you can go through the cities and enjoy yourself with tourists and locals. 

Sarangkot is one of the most popular spots where tourists from all over the world nationally and internationally come paragliding. It also offers a vibrant nightlife.

Day

3

Early in the morning, you will have a magnificent view of the sunrise, Manaslu, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchre ranges view, breakfast at the hotel, and you will walk to Pokhara or you take a cable car down to Pokhara.

It is a hilly area so you will walk down to the town by watching the amazing Phewa lake, the flying paragliding view, and the city along the way back to Pokhara.

An enjoyable pleasant walk on the gradual path with short uphill and downhill into the forest with stunning views of Annapurna Himalaya, all the way to Sarangkot.

About 2 nights and 3 days walk, where the drive from Pokhara takes you Dhampus Phedi and the climb for few hours to Dhampus village, and then following a ridge with a short climb to Australian Camp, which takes 3-4 hours with a short drive to Phedi. After Dhampus an easy uphill walks into a lovely forest with views of Annapurna Himalaya all the way to Australian Camp.

A perfect country walk for a few days, a pleasant scenic hike with the climb, in the beginning, the rest of the walk after Australian Camp is more downhill. Short gradual climb on route to Sarankot. It is worth hiking for closer views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu Himalaya range, and to witness hill villages and immense traditional farm life and culture.

All around the year except the monsoon wet season from mid-June to August, the rest of the seasons is fine with clear weather for an excellent view of mountains and pleasant walks.

Australian Camp the original and local name is Thulo Kharka, a cattle grazing pasture field. In the early days around the 1980s, a large group of mountaineering expeditions for Annapurna happen to camp on this spot. Hence the name was tagged as Australian Camp. Sarangkot is famous for stunning sunrise views over the array of Himalayan peaks, as well famous for adventure sports like Paragliding and Zip Flyer, where a walk leads downhill to Phewa lake to end the trek.
