Overview

Sun Koshi River Rafting, floating downstream for a week or more encountering various exciting rapids and bouncy waves. As rafting and paddling techniques progress heading further with enjoyable and exciting moments of great thrills. Sun Koshi, means a River of Gold where in early days local villagers use to pan for gold dust flowing on rivers. The rivers flow from the glaciers of Central Himalaya of Langtang and Jugal Himal, as well from the mountains in Tibet.

These great rivers provide excellent adventure in the world of water sports, paddling through bouncy big waves and white-water rapids. Sun Koshi Rafting is listed as the world’s top ten rivers for a white-water rafting adventure, where you will be paddling to conquer great rapids names like Harkapur-I, II, and III with Big Dipper, Jungle Corridor, and Meat Grinders. Finally ends on the flat land of the Eastern flat land of Terai at the great ‘Sapta Koshi’, the meeting point of seven great rivers of Nepal.

Trip Itinerary

Day

1
Morning drive east from Kathmandu on the old Nepal and Tibet highway, past the scenic old town of Dhulikhel to Dolalghat town, at the confluence of two rivers Melamche and Bhote Koshi. Which makes Sun Koshi the River of gold, in the early days villagers panned for gold dust. The crew and captain of the boat receive providing briefing and information on the rafting technique and safety measures.

After getting equipped with helmets, and life jackets keep your valuables in a safe water-proof barrel, then get into the raft as the float starts with instruction from the captain seated on the back giving orders on paddling technique. The captain will provide some practice exercises on paddling in a calm area, and then head through waves and rapids. As you paddle downstream encounter exciting rapids and then complete the first day, overnight camp is set on a nice sandy beach, close to a rural farm village after a few hours of first-day rafting.

2

Rafting Expeditions continues downstream for six days encountering many exciting rapids as you paddle through villages around the district of Ramechap, Sinduli, and Okhaldhunga. As rafting progress finally reached a wide Gangetic plain of Terai region, within sub-tropical temperatures after going through big exciting rapids called ‘Meat Grinder’and Harkapur- I to III avoiding drops and holes on reaching flat areas of Far southeast Nepal.

Ending the adventure. Where a short drive of a few hours takes you to Biratnagar city airport for a flight back to Kathmandu, after a great memorable adventure and experience Rafting Sun Koshi River.
