The journey leads to the famous Shigatse the 2nd largest city in Tibet after Lhasa, where the tour takes you to the golden-roofed monastery. The drive takes you around beautiful Yamdrok Tso the turquoise lake to reach the fabled Lhasa city, regarded as one of the world's highest cities. Where exciting tour leads to visiting its beautiful monasteries and the magnificent Potala Palace, the highlight and landmark of Tibet. Tibet Overland Tour, begins from the Nepalese capital city Kathmandu, drives leads to high Himalayan hills within Langtang and Ganesh Himal area.

Where route leads to the old Trans Himalaya Salt and Caravan route to Nepal and Tibet border at Kyirong. Enter the Tibetan soil, where the Tibetan Journey starts heading through the wild country in the backdrop of the high snow mountain range. Drive takes you along rural farm villages, and yak grazing fields to join on the main Kathmandu city and Lhasa highway. As the journey continues with views of Everest, Shisapangma, and Cho-Oyu, the climb towards the highest pass of the trip at Gyatsho-La. Heading through the town of Larze to reach Shigatse with time around for a tour of the famous Tashilumpo monastery. From Shigatse finally, adventure reaches you to Lhasa, after driving through beautiful areas of Gyantse, Yamdrok Tsho turquoise lake.

On reaching Lhasa, our long drive completes spending lovely pleasant moments with a tour of important sites. Visiting monasteries, and interesting colorful markets, the majestic Potala Palace is the charm and famous landmark of Tibet. After an enjoyable and exciting time in Lhasa, our Tibet Overland Tour comes to an end. A sweeping flight brings you back to Kathmandu facing a panorama of Himalayan peaks as the plane lands at Kathmandu international airport.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival at Kathmandu via respective airlines and transfer to hotel:

On arrival in Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport via various international airlines, received by our guide and staff for a short transfer to the heart of Kathmandu city. Where is your hotel located, after checking into your rooms, and then meeting other members of the trip at the hotel lobby for a briefing?

The briefing includes important information regarding Tibet Overland Tour, to make your holiday in Tibet and Nepal more enjoyable.  evening group welcomes dinner in a lovely Nepalese Restaurant with an introduction to the culture of Nepal with folk dance and music.

Day 2 : In Kathmandu free day for a sightseeing tour at places of interest:

A free day in Kathmandu preparation for Tibet Overland Tour includes a sightseeing tour around Kathmandu valley at places of great historical and religious interest.

The city is steeped with ancient world heritage sites, where the tour takes you around renowned landmarks, like the old Durbar / Palace Square with old Swayambhunath of more than 2,500 years old Stupa, a Buddhist religious monument. Includes holy Hindu temple of Pashupatinath and large dome stupa of Bouddhanath of great cultural and religious interest.

Day 3 : Drive to Syabrubesi village 1,420 m, -06 hours:

Start early as possible in the morning after breakfast, because of the long and scenic drive to reach the high hills and mountainous areas of Langtang Himal. An interesting drive of little more than 6 hours, during the ride, observe Nepalese farm villages and towns.

As drive reach you at the large town of Dhunche, located at 1, 950 m high. The headquarter town of Rasuwa district, as well as the entrance of Langtang National Park. From Dhunche winding downhill to reach Syabrubesi village for an overnight stop, mostly inhabited by the indigenous Tamang, hill tribes of Langtang and Central Himalaya, interwoven to Buddhism religion and fascinating culture.

Day 4 : Drive to Kyirong in Tibet near Nepal border 2,890 m, -03 hours:

From Syabrubesi morning drive on a newly built road that links to the Tibet border at a small village of Rasuwagadhi within Nepal's side of the frontier, a few hours drive from Syabrubesi. At the border our Tibetan guide and driver from our counterpart agent in Tibet receives you.

After completing immigration and custom formalities on both sides of the border, then enter Tibet, with a short drive to Kyirong small town for a first overnight stop in Tibet, accommodation at a local guest-house.

Day 5 : Drive to Shegar or New Tingri 4, 350 m, -06 hrs:

After an overnight in Tibet at Kyirong, having breakfast then our Tibetan guide and drive leads towards the wide and high Tibetan plateau, as the morning overland journey continues heading towards farm villages. Reaching near Lalung-la Pass 5,050 m offers grand views of Mt. Shisapangma 8, 013 m, the world's 14thhighest peak.

From here drive through the dry country to Old Tingri, where you can catch a view of Mt. Everest, and Cho-Oyo peaks. After a refreshing stop drive takes you to Shegar also called New Tingri in a simple local lodge for the overnight stop.

Day 6 : Drive to Shigatse 3, 900 m, -05 hrs:

Morning from Shegar, having breakfast drive continues on winding high road to reach the highest pass of the journey at Gyatsho-la Pass 5, 220 m. From the pass, the drive descends to Larze town, located on the junction of Mt. Kailash, and to Lhasa via Shigatse.

After a refreshing stop, a drive of a few hours to Shigatse; the second-largest city in Tibet, a place with the famous Tashilumpo Monastery; the holy seat of Panchen Lama. The hotels are up to tourist standard than the other few nights. At Shigatse with time to browse around the streets to observe the Tibetan's interesting customs.

Day 7 : Drive to Gyantse 3,950 m, -03 hrs:

Morning tour of Tashilumpo Monastery large complex and colorful market, with many shops and vendors, and an interesting place to witness Tibetans. After an interesting visit, having lunch where a few hours’ drives reach you at Gyantse; a city with ancient history, which was the main center for trade with Nepal and India, and Bhutan. On checking in a nice hotel visit Kumbum Chorten built around 1400 AD. Rest of the day take a short walk around the city streets.

Day 8 : Drive to Lhasa 3, 650 m - 261 km, -05 hrs:

From Gyantse, our overland journey heads towards Lhasa, crossing over a few passes of Karo- La Pass with super views of Nzongkhangsa peak and ice-falls, glaciers, observe the local nomads and Yak herders camp. After a scenic stop, drive to beautiful Yamdrok Tsho a turquoise Lake, as the drive continues to Khamba-La pass facing grand views of Tibetan landscapes with snow- peaks, and then downhill towards Lhasa.

As the drive enters the city suburb of Lhasa, at present a mixture of modern and old, the old section located in the east of the city within colorful and busy Barkhor market square, where most good Tibetan style hotels are located. An afternoon with time for a short walk and immerse within Tibetan pilgrims from all different parts of Tibet, as they make a once-in-a-lifetime journey visiting Lhasa on a holy pilgrimage.

Day 9 : Full day tour of Lhasa, Drepung, and Shera Monasteries visit Jhorkang Temple:

The morning after breakfast, our Tibetan guide meets you at the hotel, for an enjoyable day around Lhasa around place of great historical, religious and cultural interest. Drive west of the city and then uphill to the huge white monastery of Drepung, the seats and residence of many Dalai Lama, before Potala was built.

Tour takes you to visit the monastery interior enriched with impressive arts and statues placed in the main prayer hall and enjoy observing the monastery activities. From here head towards Jhorkang Temple amidst busy Barkhor Square and markets. The oldest shrine of Tibet enjoys views of the city from the terraces of Jhorkang temple with views of Potala Palace.

Afternoon short drive north of Lhasa to visit another important Shera monastery, and watch young monks debating regarding social and religious subjects, one of the highlights of this monastery. After a great day, the rest of the afternoon is free for a stroll around the streets of Lhasa and to witness local people of great cultural interest.

Day 10 : Tour Potala Palace and Norbulingka summer palace:

After breakfast, at the usual time for the tour of the famous landmark of Tibet, Potala Palace is situated on a red hill, within the center of Lhasa. A winter palace and resident from 5th to present 14th Dalai Lama, head of state where visitors are allowed to enter a few main halls and prayer rooms from its 100 rooms.

The Palace was built in early 640 A.D. during the time of the 5th Dalai Lama. After an interesting visit with a free afternoon for individual activities and shopping souvenirs. The afternoon tour continues with short drive southwest to Norbulingka, a summer palace of semi-modern with lovely large gardens and tall trees, our guide will take us around the summer palace's important sites, and then end the day tour with the rest of the day free at leisure.

Day 11 : Drive to Gongor airport and fly to Kathmandu:

Having last breakfast in Tibet, a short drive of an hour to Gongor International Airport, they bid farewell to Tibetan guide and drivers, and then check in with customs and visa formalities. After going through security into the plane for the scenic flight back to Kathmandu and to your hotel, the rest of the day is free for individual activities on the last day in Nepal.

Day 12 : Departure Day for International flight homeward bound:

Last day in Nepal, enjoy a memorable adventure and experience on Tibet Overland Tour, as a time for your international flight our staff transfer you to the airport for homeward bound.
