Ghandruk is the center of the main attraction of Ghorepani poon hill trekking, Ghandruk offers panoramas of the surrounding Annapurna massif, including good views of Annapurna I, the world’s tenth-highest mountain. And yet, the village only stands at around 2,012m (6,563 ft), meaning you can look out over snow-drenched Himalayas peaks without needing to trek at altitude.

Visiting Ghandruk also gives you a snapshot of everyday local life in Nepal’s mountains, especially that of the Gurung people. The whole place hums with activity, and you can soak it all up over a leisurely couple of days, sipping tea and wandering amid streets strung with prayer flags.

You can also take day walks from here, which gives you the chance to ascend a little further for even better views. Or, explore the village’s links with the Gurkhas, a unit in the British Army with a storied history.

Best time for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek:

One can venture nearly round the year, except for monsoon wet times of mid-June to the midst of September months. The rest of the seasons will be good for this wonderful Ghorepani and Poon Hill Trek.

The most preferable season is spring from March to May when days are longer and sunny till late afternoon times. Best for pleasant walks and views of mountains, cold in the morning and nighttime, around higher hills.

Around spring the hills are alive with wildflowers in bloom. Can expect snowfall and rains sometimes above 2,000 m high. The next best season is autumn from mid-September to November, where days are crystal clear, but shorter days with sunlight due to autumn seasons can be cold in the morning and nighttime.

One can visit during winter times of December to February, most days are clear with fine weather, cold with freezing temperatures above 1,800 m high. Can get snowed sometimes, around Ghorepani and Tadapani areas.

Ghorepani Poon Hill trek difficulty:

You can complete the  Ghorepani Poon Hill  Trek with little trekking experience. Poon Hill is located at an altitude of 3210 meters. It is also the highest point in this trek. So the chances of Altitude Sickness are very low or zero. One of the most difficult times during the Poon Hill Trek is to climb the 3500 stairs during a hiking trail.

In addition, the trek from Tadapani to Poon Hill also requires you to climb some stairs. Moreover, the trek is quite easy. So you don't need much preparation for this trek. However, some exercise for a few weeks before the hike makes it easier.

This trek is a normal and easy trek instead of this trekking you can go for the Mardi Himal trek and the best opportunity for you to take to both treks is you get to complete the 9-10 days.

This list outlines the required things to bring during the Ghorepani poon hill trekking. The weight limit for your luggage is 14-16 kg. Remember that your luggage will be carried by our porter during the trekking. However, you are required to carry a small day- pack with your valuables or anything important. We advise you to pack only what is necessary.

Important Items: Airline tickets; Valid passport; 2 extra passport size photos; Photocopy of your passport; Insurance paper; Dollars, Pounds, or Euros in cash for purchasing a Nepalese visa at Kathmandu airport, for paying at restaurants and hotels, for gratuities, snacks and to purchase your own drinks and gifts; Credit Card (Visa/ Master Card) for withdrawing cash from cash machines if needs.

For Head: Sun Hat; Bandana or head scarf; Headlamp with extra batteries; Sun Glasses with UV protection.

For Upper Body: Shirts (1 half sleeve and 2 long sleeves); Lightweight thermal tops; Fleece Jacket or Wool Sweater; Wind Cheater jacket; Down Jacket

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival at Kathmandu:

Upon your arrival in Nepal through the Tribhuvan International Airport, our staff will welcome you and transfer you to your respective hotels. relaxing at your hotel, the guide will brief you about the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek and will also suggest you on the checklist for your backpack.

A warm and authentic Nepali meal will be offered to you at dinner and later you can enjoy some folk cultural music and dance.

Day 2 : Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley, 4-5 hrs:

This day has been set aside for sightseeing around Kathmandu valley. You can take suggestions from your guide on the places to visit. You can visit the UNESCO world heritage sites like Kathmandu, and Patan Courtyards or you can even visit the Narayanhiti Museum which was once the Palace of the Ex-King of Nepal.

If you are spiritual, then you can catch a glimpse of Pashupatinath Temple can even visit the Swayambhunath Temple and Boudhanath Temple. There are numerous cultural heritage sites around the Kathmandu valley that you can visit on this day. Stay overnight at Hotel.

Day 3 : Fly/Drive to Pokhara, 7/8 hours:

Early in the morning, you will take the tourist bus and head towards the naturally beautiful city of Pokhara which is a 7-8 hours drive. The bus ride is very memorable since the natural beauty of the green hills and the mountains at a distance will be imprinted in your mind.

You will pass Muglin, Gorkha, and then reach Prithvi Narayan Chowk, until finally reaching your respective hotel. You will stay close to Fewa Lake for a beautiful view.

Day 4 : Drive to Nayapul (990m) then hike to Tikhedhunga (1540m), 3/4 hours walk:

On this day, after having breakfast, you will be driven to Nayapul which is the entrance to most of the treks in the Annapurna Region, and also to the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. On this day, you will trek towards Tikhedhunga. Along the way, you will pass Birethanti and walk alongside Modi Khola.

Throughout the path, you will be amazed by the flora and fauna found in the region with pine forests and rhododendron growing above. Also, you will see beautiful waterfalls along the way. You can intermingle with the Chhetri community residing in the region. Upon reaching Tikhedhunga stay overnight at the lodge.

Day 5 : Trek to Ghorepani (2850m), 5/6 hours walk:

On this day, you will be heading from Tikhedhunga towards Ghorepani which is a beautiful hike. You will climb uphill along with long stone-paved steps which might be challenging.

However, after every climb, you will see a new view and will also get close-up views of Macchapuchre and Annapurna. As you head upwards, the weather will start getting colder. up reaching Ghorepani stay overnight at the lodge.

Day 6 : Hike to Poon Hill and Tadapani (2660m),4/5 hours walk:

Early in the morning, the trek will then continue towards Poonhill from hereon. Although it is a short hike, the topography is challenging because of the uphill. This is the highlight of the entire trek. After reaching Poon  Hill, you will be welcomed with the close-up views of Annapurna Massif, Macchapuchrey, Dhaulagiri, and Mount Nilgiri which is fascinating. You can also rent the Gurung dress and wear it for clicking pictures.

The thatched roofs of the houses and the rhododendron along the way will keep you mesmerized throughout the trek. After enjoying the view and getting so close to the clouds, you will return to the hotel have breakfast then lead towards Tadapani, when you go from Ghorepani to Tadapani, you will see a variety of panoramic views through the jungle. reaching Tadapani overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 7 : Trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk (1940meter), 3 hours walks:

You will take a hike from Tadapani to Ghandruk. The path is relatively more accessible. Along the way, you will meet many locals from the Gurung and Chhetri community. from here you can go to the Annapurna base camp trek, You can also get to know their cultures and traditions as you head towards Ghandruk.

You will be staying at lodges or homestays which will further enhance your experience of the unique cultures of the people staying there. Enjoy some local meals and drinks. In the evening you can also visit the Annapurna Conservation office and museum. reaching Ghandruk overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 8 : Trek from Ghandruk to Pokhara:

You will be tracing your steps back as you head from Ghandruk to Pokhara on this day. You take the downhill path which is relatively easier and quicker than the initial climb. After reaching Nayapul, your tourist bus will take you to Pokhara.

After getting fresh, you can head out to the local pubs and clubs near the lakeside at Pokhara. Spend a lovely night at Pokhara with your family and friends near Fewa Lake. reaching Pokhara overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 9 : Fly/ Drive From Pokhara –Kathmandu, 7-8 hrs:

On this day, you will be leaving the wonderful city of Pokhara and heading toward Kathmandu. You can take a tourist bus from Pokhara to Kathmandu which will take around 5-6 hours, or you can opt for a flight that will take approximately 30fro minutes.

Upon reaching your hotel, you can choose to take a rest, or you can shop for souvenirs to take back home from Thamel.

Day 10 : International departure:
