Welcome dinner ( breakfast + Lunch + Dinner a Treks )
Helambu trek is one of the easiest and diverse treks around Kathmandu valley. Despite its proximity to the capital, the trail and the villages in the trek remain unaffected and unspoiled by the rest of the world. The well-designed off the beaten trails allow us to experience the beauty and serenity of the hills and the mountains.
The classic trek weaves its way through dense forests and cultural Buddhist villages accompanied by the breathtaking Himalayan vistas. The terrain includes dramatic ascents and descents as we appreciate the rhododendrons, conifers, and oaks with cattle grazing in the fields and high ridges in the moderate climate of the region.
The week-long trek takes us closer to the Tibetan border and high mountains of Langtang region as we attain the highest elevation of 3650 meters at Tharepati. The trek combines Sherpa and Tamang village cultures with the Himalayan vistas as well as the rich flora and fauna of Shivapuri National Park and Langtang National Park. The combination of beauty, culture, and adventure within a short period of time at lower elevations makes the trek a perfect getaway for everyone.

Drive to Sundarijal and trek to Chisapani
From Kathmandu, we drive to Sundarijal which is an hour’s drive. Sundarijal at 1350m is the starting point of our trek. From Sundarijal, we start the trek as we see a hydroelectric plant and then enter Shivapuri National Park. We first reach a Tamang settlement called Mulkharka. As we make our way along the ridge through oaks and rhododendrons, we reach Chisopani at 2300 meters. After 4 hours of trekking, we rest at Chisopani.
Trek from Chisopani to Kutumsang.
The trail from Chisopani passes through meadows and fields and descends down to a valley with magnificent views of the mountains. We reach Pathi Bhanjyang which is a Brahmin and Chhetri village. A small ascent from here leads to Thakuni Bhanjyang, a Sherpa village with a small, white chorten. We make a steep ascent to Chipping and then climb 200m on a stone staircase to reach Jhogin Danda. With beautiful Himalayan vistas, the trail descends through rhododendron forests to Gul Bhanjyang. It is a Tamang village at an elevation of 2140 meters. The trek moves on to another pass and then climbs up an oak forest. Then, the trail moves north to Yurin danda which has the best views of Langtang and Gosaikunda peaks. Then we climb up to reach Kutumsang at 2446 meters where we spend the night.
Trek from Kutumsang to Tharepati.
The trek from Kutumsang is a steep climb through eroded trails on fir and rhododendron forests. The trail moves up and down through meadows and streams. After a while, the trail climbs to a hilltop with fluttering prayer flags which is famous for the gorgeous views of Langtang region. We spend the night in Tharepati at an elevation of 3650 meters.
Trek from Tharepati to Tarkeghyang.
In Tharepati, we wake up early to enjoy the sunrise views and the magnificent Gosaikunda and other peaks. The trail first descends down the ridge through rhododendron and pine forests with beautiful views of Jugal Himal, Numbur, and Helambu valley. We pass through villages and a forested area to reach Melamchi Khola and after a while Melamchi Gaun. It is a Sherpa settlement marked with unique lifestyles and culture. There is a gompa here from where the trail descends through forests and chortens. After reaching the valley floor, we can enjoy a dip in the Melamchi stream. After crossing the bridge, we ascend to a valley called Nakota. After passing through old settlements and monasteries, we reach the beautiful Sherpa village of Tarkeghyang. The village is marked by its narrow cobbled streets with packed houses and an 18th century Gompa which give it a rustic look like the villages in Mustang and Dolpo. We spend the night at an elevation of 2560 meters.
Trek from Tarkeghyang to Sermathang
This day is fairly easy as the trail is levelled with not much altitude gain. We walk across forests to finally reach the beautiful village of Helambu. The trail sweeps along the valley between Parachin and Gyangul village to reach Sermathang. Sermathang is our last stop for the day which is another beautiful Sherpa village in the region. We explore many ancient monasteries and enjoy the views of Jugal Himal, Ganesh Himal, Rolwaling, Gosaikunda, and even Everest from here. We spend the night here at an elevation of 2610 meters.
Trek to Melamchi Pul Bazaar and then drive to Kathmandu
On the last day of the trek, we make our way through meadows and fields. We also pass through old villages with splendid mountain views.
